Can new windows reduce your carbon footprint?

reduce your carbon footprint

If you reduce your carbon footprint, you will be doing your bit to slow global warming and help towards reducing the impact of climate change.

One way we can all make a difference is to choose energy-efficient windows.

New windows can reduce your carbon footprint in a variety of ways. In this guide, we will explain how new windows reduce your carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.

How New Windows Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

New windows are energy efficient. They keep heat inside your home when the weather outside is cold and they keep heat out in the hot summer months.

By helping to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home, new windows will allow you to turn down your heating in winter and turn off your air conditioning in summer. The resulting reduction in energy use will contribute to reducing your carbon footprint.

At Colne Valley Windows, we supply Rehau uPVC windows that benefit from being A-rated for energy efficiency.

What is the best type of glazing for energy efficiency?

Single-glazed windows are the least effective for energy efficiency. They allow more heat loss and keeping a room warm will be more difficult.

Both double and triple-glazed windows will significantly improve the insulation and help prevent heat loss.

Double-glazed windows have a layer of argon gas between two glass panes. Argon gas is a poor conductor of heat, so this prevents warm air from escaping.

Triple-glazed windows are even more energy efficient thanks to an additional pane of glass and an extra layer of argon gas.

Our double-glazed windows are 28mm and our optional triple-glazed windows are 44mm.

Will my new windows come from a sustainable source?

The manufacturing process of your new windows and the materials used will impact the windows’ sustainability.

Our Rehau windows are made from recycled and reclaimed materials and the manufacturing process has been streamlined to be as efficient as possible with maximum opportunities for recycling.

Rehau saved over 100,000 tonnes of waste by recycling old windows in their production process. 65% of their packaging is made from sustainable materials and efficiencies in production saved 20% of electricity compared to 2009.

Why is it important to reduce my carbon footprint?

Reducing your carbon footprint is essential for a number of reasons:

  1. Climate Change: The emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, is the primary cause of climate change. By reducing your carbon footprint, you are helping to slow the pace of global warming and mitigate its negative impacts on the environment, society, and the economy.
  2. Health: Air pollution caused by burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas, can have serious health consequences, including respiratory illnesses, heart disease, and even cancer. By reducing your carbon footprint, you are helping to reduce air pollution and improve public health.
  3. Natural Resources: The extraction, transportation, and use of fossil fuels can significantly impact natural resources such as water, forests, and land. By reducing your carbon footprint, you are helping to conserve these resources for future generations.
  4. Cost Savings: Reducing your carbon footprint can also help you save money on energy bills.

Overall, reducing your carbon footprint is essential in protecting the environment, promoting public health, and conserving natural resources for future generations.
