10 Top Tips for Spring Cleaning uPVC Windows

You probably know how to clean windows, but our tips will help ensure you do not end up with stubborn streaks and smears that spoil the view.

Avoid a sunny day, as your windows will dry too quickly and leave streaks no matter how hard you try to avoid them. Clean the outside of your windows first, as they will likely be dirtier.

  1. Start by using a vacuum or brush to clean all the vents on the windows. Brush away any cobwebs or dirt that has collected in the corners. Failing to do this will mean you spread dirt when cleaning the windows.
  2. Next, channel Mrs Hinch and make a homemade cleaning solution for the uPVC frames and window panes. Mix together some warm water, washing-up liquid and a few drops of white vinegar in an empty spray bottle. Vinegar is an acid that helps to remove stubborn dirt and residue.
  3. Start with the uPVC frames first to remove all the excess dirt. This will prevent dirty water from dripping onto the clean glass.
  4. Spray your cleaning solution on the uPVC frames and wipe away any build-up of dirt with a sponge.
  5. Dry the frames immediately with a soft dry cloth or kitchen towel to leave them shiny and clean.
  6. Now work on the panes of the window using the same spray. Remove all the dirt with the sponge and dry with a soft cloth immediately to leave the frames streak free.
  7. You can use a squeegee to ensure the glass is dried fast without smears.
  8. You may require a ladder to reach higher windows. Remember to keep safe by getting someone to hold the bottom of the ladder while you work.
  9. Repeat the process for the inside of your windows.
  10. Stand back and admire how bright and clean your windows look!
